Company History
| 1956 | Established as Kuraya Honten Co., Ltd. in Kanazawa-city, Ishikawa Prefecture. Founded as a ryokan (inn) offering a restaurant and banquet hall in Ishibiki-machi, near Kenroku-en Garden. |
| 1966 | Changed the company name to Ōkura Shōji Co., Ltd. |
| 1969 | Opened the Omichō Store (directly managed) in the Omichō Market, Kanazawa City — pioneering the conveyor-belt sushi business. |
| 1974 | Established Daishō Bussan Co., Ltd. |
| 1978 | Established Lowry’s Co., Ltd. |
| 1981 | Opened the Nagoya Branch, marking the start of expansion across Japan for sushi-ingredient sales. |
| 1983 | Established Daishō Bussan Co., Ltd. (merging Ōkura Shōji Co., Ltd., Daishō Bussan Co., Ltd. and Lowry’s Co., Ltd.). Opened the Yokohama Branch and the Toyama Branch. |
| 1984 | Opened the Osaka Branch. |
| 1986 | Opened the Chōfu Branch (Tokyo). |
| 1987 | Opened the Ōmiya Branch and the Shin-Yokohama Branch. |
| 1988 | Opened the Niigata Branch. |
| 1991 | Opened the Tokyo Branch (merging the Chōfu Branch and Ōmiya Branch). Opened the Yokohama Branch (merging the Yokohama Branch and Shin-Yokohama Branch). |
| 1994 | Opened the Chiba Branch. |
| 1997 | Opened the Tsurumi Branch. |
| 2006 | To rationalize operations, the head office relocated to Chōfu-city, Tokyo and the company name changed to Ōkura Co., Ltd. The Chiba Branch was relocated. |
| 2007 | Established the corporate philosophy: “Through food life, we contribute to people around the world.” |
| 2008 | Opened the Yokohama Branch (consolidated with the Tsurumi Branch). Relocated the Nagoya Branch. |
| 2011 | Joined the Asahi Shokuhin Group. Opened the Fukuoka Sales Office. |
| 2012 | Relocated the Osaka Branch. |
| 2016 | Relocated the Fukuoka Sales Office and renamed it the Fukuoka Branch. |
| 2017 | Opened a Hiroshima Sales Office under the Osaka Branch. |
| 2018 | Opened a Sendai Sales Office under the Niigata Branch. |
| 2019 | Opened a Kumamoto Sales Office under the Fukuoka Branch. Opened a Nagano Sales Office under the Food-Service Division 1. |
| 2020 | Closed the Kumamoto Sales Office under the Fukuoka Branch. Relocated the Yokohama Branch. Opened the Daikoku-ya Chōfu-Inter Store (home-delivery sushi) and the Daikoku-ya Fuchū-Bubaigawara Store. |
| 2021 | Closed the Hiroshima Sales Office under the Osaka Branch. Absorbed Delica Salad Boy Co., Ltd.’s seafood department and continued operations as Ōkura Ehime Factory. |
| 2022 | Relocated the Niigata Branch. Opened a Shizuoka Sales Office under the Food-Service Division 1. |
| 2023 | Opened the Matsuyama Branch. Opened an Okinawa Sales Office under the Fukuoka Branch. Opened a Sapporo Sales Office under the Food-Service Division 1. |
| 2024 | Opened a Kagoshima Sales Office under the Fukuoka Branch. Opened Sushi Sakaba Kuraya Chōfu Main Store (directly managed) and Sushi Sakaba Kuraya Kichijōji Main Store. Launched the EC store “Sushi Reach”. |
| 2025 | Merged with Kōzai Bussan Co., Ltd. and changed the company name to The Fish Factory Japan Co., Ltd. Made 101 Co., Ltd. a subsidiary. |
